HURUHURU WATERHOLE

On March the 2nd 2006 in order to prevent more drownings, Waitakere City Council carried a motion to raise the bed of the Huruhuru Waterhole. The main contractor built temporary dams and filled the bed to a safer level.

Our scope of work was to recreate the creek bed using steel, mesh and sprayed concrete to form a new rock like base. The concrete was coloured and shaped providing a safe and shallow swimming area. The end result was natural looking rock with gentle rapids which blends in well with environment.

This was a challenging but rewarding project, bad weather and leaks in the dam caused delays which held up concrete placement and made working conditions hazardous. Fortunately excellent team work and coordination paid off, the results speak for themselves.
